In celebration of athlete competition in Beijing and its commitment to sports, Nike Sportswear launched a dozen unique short term retail installations, ranging from a boutique on a boat in Paris and a store in a refurbished theatre in Los Angeles. These spaces are designed to give consumers a unique experience with the brand and to act as hubs for Nike in each respective city, mixing sports and the creative community.

The stores will stay open from 30-to-60 days and offer consumers a mix of Nike Sportswear product, all under one roof in unexpected locations. In Paris, the store is located on a boat moored in the Quai Henry IV. In London, a 290-square meter (3,000 square feet) space has been selected in the area where athletes will compete in 2012. In Los Angeles, Nike Sportswear will be located at The Montalbán, a historic theatre in Hollywood. These retail installations provide the world a sneak preview to the launch of the first stand-alone Nike Sportswear store at 21 Mercer Street in NY later this month, which launches with a special event on August 21st.

Nike is also launching Nikesportswear.com, which for the first time, allows consumers to make purchases online. The site will be the digital home for Nike Sportswear, with new product offerings, updated news and facts, as well as local event notifications.

NikeTown New York 5th Floor

To celebrate the launch of Nike Sportswear, NikeTown New York has completely redesigned its 5th floor, dedicating the entire space to Nike Sportswear.

The new NikeTown 5th floor hasn’t just undergone an architectural revolution but it has also completely changed the products on its shelves. For the first time, you will find the best of Nike Sportswear including our newest, pinnacle apparel line, the NSW Collection.

The opening of the 5th floor is marked by a five story chandelier-inspired installation built around one of Sportswear’s most important silhouettes; the Windrunner. Over 200 Windrunners were used to create this towering spectacle and is representative of the diverse nature of this enduring sport icon. The structure's most symbolic Windrunner is the US Team model which is being worn by our athletes during Opening and Closing Ceremonies and as they claim their medals on the podiums of Beijing.

While the 5th floor revolution is a permanent fixture of NikeTown, the Windrunner installation will be taken down at the end of the month.
